Commercial CAR-T in China: Pricing Breakdown & Sources
This page explains how commercial CAR-T drug pricing in China is established from official NMPA-approved list prices, how standard patient discounts apply to international patients, what hospital bills beyond the cell product typically look like at public wards, public international departments, and private international hospitals, and how to identify fraudulent low-cost offers.
1. Official List Prices & the Per-Product Reduction
In China, commercially approved autologous BCMA CAR-T therapies—福可苏® (eque-cel, NMPA approval 国药准字S20230006) and 赛恺泽® (zevor-cel, NMPA approval 国药准字S20240007)—are registered on official provincial public pharmaceutical procurement platforms with regulated nationwide retail list prices of ¥1,166,000 RMB for eque-cel and ¥1,150,000 RMB for zevor-cel for cell manufacturing and batch release. These are regulated drug list prices, not an all-inclusive hospital package.
The manufacturer reduction for international patients no longer applies to both products. Current policy, reviewed by CMDN on 2026-10-03:

How we know, and what we don’t. List prices are verifiable per product: each carries an NMPA approval number and a provincial public-procurement listing, both linked below. The reduction status is not backed by any public document. It is manufacturer policy that CMDN confirmed directly; no manufacturer announcement has been published, and no end date has been announced for the reduction that remains. It may also vary by hospital or change again without notice. Ask the treating hospital to state the applicable reduction in writing before you budget or transfer any money.

Pricing Integrity & Scam Prevention
To protect international patients from fraudulent broker packages or unregulated investigational products, keep these two commercial benchmarks in mind:
•Drug Cost Rule: The licensed NMPA commercial cell drug alone starts at ≈ ¥950,000 RMB (≈ $132,220 USD) — and that is the cheaper of the two products. Where the international-patient reduction no longer applies, the drug alone is ≈ ¥1,166,000 RMB. Any offer quoting drug costs below the lower figure requires extreme caution.
•Checking a Private Package: For 福可苏® (Eque-cel), the CMDN private international planning range (cell product + other medical care) is ¥1,516,000–¥1,666,000 RMB (≈ $210,995–$231,872 USD). A lower quote needs an itemized comparison; it is not proof of fraud. Confirm bridging, ICU care and travel/living costs separately.

2. Hospital Costs Beyond the Cell Product — Three Tiers
The cell-product charge is separate from other medical care: work-up (imaging, marrow, echo and infection screening as required), apheresis, Flu/Cy lymphodepletion, inpatient monitoring, laboratory tests, supportive medicines and early follow-up. For planning, the site uses a 7–14-day peri-infusion inpatient window; the treating team determines the actual stay, which can be longer. The 8–10-week stay in China also includes outpatient lodging during manufacturing and follow-up — lodging is not part of the medical estimate.
Hospital-side ranges are CMDN planning estimates, not published hospital packages or observed patient-bill ranges. They cover work-up, apheresis, lymphodepletion, inpatient monitoring, supportive medicines and early follow-up. Basis of the public-ward planning range
Shanghai Xinhua Hospital lists a three-bed ward at ¥68/day, a simple laminar-clean bed at ¥90/day, and single rooms starting at ¥398/day. These are bed charges, not a complete isolation-care package. For illustration, 14 days at those entry-level rates costs ¥952, ¥1,260 or ¥5,572 for the bed alone. Tests, apheresis, lymphodepletion, physician and nursing services, supportive medicines and follow-up are additional. The ¥80,000–220,000 band is a provisional CMDN planning estimate for these combined costs, not a sum of published CAR-T component-price ranges. Longer admissions, repeated tests and more supportive treatment can increase the bill; confirm the ward and tariff available to international patients.
Basis of the international-department planning range
International departments can charge special-needs rates for rooms, inpatient physician visits and nursing; confirm whether tests, procedures and medicines use ordinary public tariffs at the selected hospital. As a service-price illustration, Shanghai Children’s Hospital’s 30 June 2026 posting lists a special-needs single room at ¥1,200/day, an internal-medicine inpatient visit at ¥1,000/day and level-1 nursing at ¥700/day. If all three apply each day, that is ¥2,900/day, or ¥20,300–40,600 over 7–14 days, before tests, procedures and medicines. This pediatric tariff is not an adult myeloma CAR-T quotation. The ¥150,000–350,000 band remains a provisional CMDN planning estimate for the wider medical episode; the daily-service example alone does not derive this range. Actual room rates, length of stay and supportive-treatment needs must be checked with the treating center.
Basis of the private-international planning range
Jiahui’s official CAR-T service information distinguishes the cell-product charge from other medical charges, but does not publish an itemized hospital-side price range. Private hospital room, physician, nursing, procedure and medicine charges need to be checked individually. The ¥350,000–500,000 band is a provisional CMDN planning estimate, not a verified Jiahui quote or a measured range for uncomplicated cases. It is not calculated by subtracting a discounted product from unrelated nationwide total-cost estimates. With zevor-cel at ¥950,000, adding this allowance gives ¥1,300,000–¥1,450,000 for the cell product plus other medical care. A change to the product discount changes that total, not the hospital-care allowance.
3. Inpatient Care, Bridging, and ICU Monitoring
Severe cytokine release syndrome (Grade ≥3 CRS) occurs in only ~1.0% to ~6.9% of myeloma patients treated with China’s approved commercial products. Among the minority of patients who require temporary intensive care escalation, published clinical cohorts report a median ICU stay of 4–5 days (Constantinescu et al., 2023):
Grade 1–2 Mild CRS (Standard Ward Care)
~90% of treated patients
Managed on the routine hematology ward with antipyretics, supportive fluids, and IL-6 receptor antagonists (such as tocilizumab) as clinically indicated.
ICU Escalation (Severe CRS / Neurotoxicity)
Occurs in a small minority; median 4–5 ICU days
In China, all CAR-T administering hematology centers must maintain an on-site ICU. Intensive care stays are billed at standard hospital critical care daily tariffs based on actual clinical interventions.
4. How to read a quote against the commercial floor
A third-party “all-in CAR-T in China” price should be checked against the drug floor and the hospital tier. The numbers below are planning ranges, not a quote:
1. The ¥950,000 Drug-Only Floor
The lowest net NMPA commercial cell-product cost is about ¥950,000 RMB before any hospital bills. Use the calculator above for current currency conversions. Any broker offer claiming an all-inclusive trip under this threshold sits below the net cell-product cost.

2. Public General Ward
For zevor-cel, the indicative cell-product-plus-hospital range is ¥1,030,000–¥1,170,000 RMB. Public hospitals bill directly in RMB with no intermediary packages; ward rounds are in Mandarin and foreign families must arrange their own independent daily logistics.

3. Private-hospital packages under $150k
For zevor-cel, the indicative cell-product-plus-hospital range at private international hospitals with English care is ¥1,300,000–¥1,450,000 RMB. Third-party brokers advertising “full private concierge packages with lodging and translation for under $150,000 USD” should be checked against a licensed hospital’s itemized quote.
